From Abandoned Pool to Community Destination: The Transformation of N.H. Scott Community Pool
For nearly two decades, the swimming pool at N.H. Scott Park in Decatur, Georgia, sat closed and unused. What had once been a place for the community to swim, gather, and spend summer days together had become an aging facility in need of a complete transformation.
Georgia Classic Pool was selected to help bring it back to life.
This wasn’t simply a swimming pool renovation. The existing pool had reached the point where starting over made the most sense. Our commercial pool team demolished the old swimming pool and rebuilt the facility from the ground up, creating a modern community pool designed to serve Decatur and DeKalb County residents for years to come.
Starting Over After Nearly 20 Years
Projects like N.H. Scott demonstrate just how different commercial and municipal pool construction can be from building a new pool on an undeveloped site.
Before the new pool could take shape, the old facility had to come out.
Georgia Classic Pool demolished the existing swimming pool and began the process of creating an entirely new aquatic facility in its place. What emerged was dramatically different from the pool that had sat unused for so many years.
The completed N.H. Scott Community Pool features:
- Dedicated swimming lanes
- A zero-depth beach entry for easy access to the water
- A 12-foot-deep area designed for diving
- A modern pool layout capable of accommodating recreation, swimming and community use
- A completely renewed aquatic environment for the surrounding community
The transformation is especially striking when you compare photos of the original facility with the finished pool.
Bringing a Community Pool Back to Life
A community swimming pool is more than concrete, water and equipment.
It’s a place where children learn to swim. It’s where families spend summer afternoons together, neighbors meet one another and communities create memories.
That’s what makes the N.H. Scott project particularly rewarding.
After being without this community pool for nearly 20 years, residents were once again able to enjoy the facility this past summer.
Seeing people in the water is ultimately what completing a project like this is all about.
Led From Beginning to Completion
A commercial swimming pool project of this scale requires coordination between numerous people, trades and organizations.
For Georgia Classic Pool, Danae Vance, who leads our commercial division, spearheaded the N.H. Scott Community Pool project from its earliest stages and helped carry it through construction and final completion.
From coordinating the project and working through the many details involved in commercial construction to seeing the finished facility open to the community, Danae played an important role in bringing the project across the finish line.
The completed N.H. Scott pool is a testament to her leadership and to the Georgia Classic Pool team members and partners who contributed throughout the project.
